Geology is the scientific study of the origin, structure, processes and history of the earth. Rocks exposed in the Mourne Cooley Gullion region represent sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic processes, and over 400 million years of geological history.

Geomorphology means the study of the shape of the earth; the scientific study of the development and features of landforms. The landscape of the Mourne Cooley Gullion was mainly shaped by ice in the last glaciation 17,000 to 13,000 years ago.

Archaeology

Archaeology

Archaeology is the study of human settlement & interaction with the landscape through analysis of surviving material evidence. Human settlement in the project area is well represented from the Neolithic Period through to the Medieval Period and beyond.
